Scribie.com makes it easy for you to get high quality transcripts of your audio/video files. You just have to upload your files, place the order and download the transcripts after a day. We provide the transcripts as Microsoft Word, OpenOffice.org Text, Adobe PDF and plain text files, and is time-coded and speakers are tracked with names (view sample). We follow a four stage transcripiton transcription process where the initial work is done by our home-based certified transcribers and then QA'ed by our in-house team, which is why we are able to guarantee a minimum quality standard of 98%.
We have expertise in interview transcription, webinar transcription, podcast transcription, sermon transcription, group discussion transcription, lecture transcription and video transcription. We provide general transcription services as well as specialized transcription services for academic transcription, medical transcription, legal transcription and business transcription.

With Scribie.com you don't have to worry about hidden costs or extra charges. We charge per minute of audio and not the amount of time spent working on the file. Therefore the cost of transcript is fixed. For difficult files, instead of charging extra we ask for more time to deliver.
Our transcripts are high-quality, consistent, well-researched and delivered on time. We research the tough words, acronyms, names of places and other contextual information. Incompressible portion's are marked with a blank and time-stamped so that you can easily crosscheck with the audio file.
We only provide English transcription services. We can handle non-native English speakers and do not charge extra for it.

The first time an order is placed, an account on Scribie.com will be created for you with the email address supplied during payment. You can then monitor the progress of your files, view the Work-In-Progress transcript and finally download the transcripts once they are delivered from your Scribie.com account. You can also use the same account to order more files subsequently.
We require payments to be made in advance for all transcript orders. We accept the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and JCB. We also accept payments via PayPal.
We have several discount schemes on Scribie.com which will help you save on transcription.
Bulk Orders: We offer a 15% discount for more than 10 hours of audio ordered at a time. This discount is applied automatically when the total duration of all the files in the invoice is more than 10 hours.
Monthly Discounts: If you order more than 10 hours of transcripts in a month, we will send you a unique coupon which can be used for subsequent orders. You can apply this coupon multiple times over the next 30 days to avail the discount. This scheme will benefit you if need few files transcribed each day with a fast turnaround.
Seasonal Discounts: We publish discount coupons periodically which can be applied before placing the order. The discount rates and validity vary and are typically high during holidays. Please contact support to join the mailing list and get notified about new coupons. This is a good option if you are looking for a discount deal.
Please note that only one discount scheme can be availed at a time. The discounts are not accumulative.
The payment for the transcript orders are required to be made in advance. We support all major credit cards and PayPal. At this time we are unable to support any other payment method. Unfortunately, we also do not support post-payment. We cannot send a bill or an invoice or a purchase order for the work done, to be paid later.

The transcript order can be cancelled anytime till the progress is below 60%. The refunds are sent directly to the credit card or PayPal account. The amount refunded is proportional to the progress.
We do not offer refunds after the transcript has been delivered. However, we offer free re-reviews if the transcript quality is unsatisfactory.
For Express orders, the transcript is guaranteed to be delivered within 12 hours.
For 1 Day orders, the transcript will be delivered within 24 hours if the order is placed before 2:30 PM EDT (US), 48 hours if after.
For Flexible Week and Flexible Month orders, the delivery is guaranteed on scheduled date of delivery, but may be delivered earlier.
Files with poor audio quality, distortions, non-native speakers or difficult accents may take up to a week to deliver. A email notification will be sent in case of delay. If the file cannot be transcribed, it will be returned and the amount will be refunded in full.
A delivery limit of 10 hours of transcripts per week, 2 hours or 50 files per day (approximately) per account may apply for bulk orders. We will deliver at least 2 hours of transcripts each day until all your files are finished if more than 2 hours is ordered in a day from your account. For example, if you order 3 files of 1 hour each, you'll receive the first 2 files the next day and the other file, the day after. A single file of 3 hours will be delivered in two days. We are very flexible with the delivery limit and it's just to ensure that we are not overwhelmed by a single large order. Please contact us for a higher delivery limit if you need it. We will be more than happy to arrange it. We do not charge extra for it.
The Integrated Editor is an online tool which helps you quickly and effectively check the transcript against the audio file. The audio and the text of the transcript is presented together and are tightly coupled both ways. A jump to any time of the audio places the cursor at the correct position in the transcript (accurate to +/- 50 characters). Conversely, you can place the cursor on any position of the text and play the corresponding audio (accurate to +/- 10 seconds). Additionally, you can also play from start of paragraphs, check and edit the blanks, cycle through the blanks etc. The audio can also be sped up or slowed down (supported only on Google Chrome). Various keyboard shortcuts are also available to help you navigate without the mouse. The editor can be launched from the Check & Download button from the Uploaded Files page on your Scribie.com account.
The Integrated Editor is one-of-a-kind tool developed completely in-house and has proved to be a huge time saver for assessing the accuracy of the transcript. It is much more efficient than checking the transcript and the audio separately. We strongly recommend that you check the file before downloading and add those last finishing touches before using it for your end purpose. Our minimum quality standard is 98% accuracy and the transcripts are delivered only when this criteria is met. Our transcription process that each file is checked multiple times by different people. More eyes and ears on the file results in a better quality transcript. We also do any research required for technical terms and acronyms. Our Proofreaders are best of the best amongst our certified transcribers. We also have subject matter experts for Legal Transcription, Medical Transcription, Academic Transcription and Business Transcription as well as accent experts for Indian, African and other non-native accents.
Accuracy also depends on the quality of the audio file and the difficulty level. The accuracy may be lower if the file contains background noise, or if the speakers cannot be heard clearly, or if the speakers’ diction or accent is hard to comprehend. Such files may require 1 week to deliver instead of 1 day since it requires extra effort to transcribe accurately. We however do not levy any additional charges for it. The full amount paid will be refunded if the file is un-transcribeable.
The Additional Proofreading option can be specified when ordering. For these orders, we do two rounds of Proofreading instead of one and charge $0.50/audio min extra. We recommend this option for high difficulty level files.
You can also order a free re-review if the transcript quality is not satisfactory after the transcript has been delivered. The re-review order can be placed from your account along with specific instructions, if any. The file will be proofread once more and re-delivered. Re-review orders take 1 business day to process.
We do not offer refunds after the transcript has been delivered. However, the transcript order can be cancelled till the progress reaches 60%. We also offer free re-reviews if the transcript quality is unsatisfactory.

We offer free re-reviews if the transcript quality is found to be unsatisfactory after delivery. The re-review order can be placed from your account and along with specific instructions, if any. The file will be proofread once more and re-delivered. Re-review orders take 1 business day to process.
We strive to maintain a high level of quality and take customer feedback very seriously. For each re-review order placed we investigate the root causes and address them to prevent it from reoccurring in the future.
We do not offer refunds after the transcript has been delivered. However you can cancel the transcript anytime before delivery.
The transcript order can be canceled anytime before the scheduled delivery date. The refund is processed in 1 business day. The refund amount however depends on the progress and is the amount paid multiplied by the percent progress of the transcript. Therefore, if the progress is 0% then the full amount will be refunded and lesser as the progress increases. The Work-In-Progress transcript can be saved as a text file from the account.

We follow a four stage process for preparing the transcripts. The initial work is done by our certified home-based freelancers and then QA'ed by our in-house team which ensures that the quality is as high as possible. In the illustration below, the first two stages are done by certified freelancers and the last two stages are done by our in-house team.

1. Transcription: The file is split into smaller parts and is transcribed our certified transcriptionists. The incomprehensible parts are marked with blanks.
2. Review: The transcript is checked for mistakes and corrected. Timestamps and speaker tracking are also added at this stage.
3. Proofreading: All part files are combined together to produce the final transcript. The transcript is proofread once to correct inconsistencies and mistakes.
4. Quality Check: The quality is assessed and delivered if the accuracy is found to be 98% or more. The proofreading step is repeated till the desired accuracy is achieved.
Our transcription system manages all the above stages. All our transcribers are home-based freelancers who have gone through our certification process and are paid on an hourly basis for the work done. The system monitors their performance and manages the payments made to them. We provide them with tools to efficiently transcribe files and a comprehensive set of guidelines for transcription. The guidelines are enforced strictly and their performance is graded. The transcripts are prepared part by part in a collaborative manner and the quality improves at each stage.
We have re-thought the audio transcription process for the internet-age and designed our audio transcription system from scratch to produce the best quality transcripts at the least cost and effort. Our system and service has a proven track record. We have completed more than 583,876.72 minutes of transcription to date. The following are some unique features which our system provides.
- Accurately measure the transcript progress depending upon what stage it is in. You can track the progress and check the Work-In-Progress transcript anytime.
- Ensure that a number of people collaboratively work on each file, which results in a higher quality transcript. Even the shortest file is worked upon by more than three people.
- Since a number of people can work on different parts of the transcript simultaneously, the transcript is completed faster.
- Produce consistent and repeatable results since a common set of guidelines is used for transcription.
Maintaining confidentiality of all transcription files is our highest priority and we take the following steps to ensure that your data remains confidential:
- We split up the file into smaller parts and distribute it to our transcribers. That way they only have access to parts of the file. Nobody but our employees and contractors have access to the full audio file.
- Our freelance transcribers are bound by our terms to keep the content of the audio confidential. Once the transcript is completed, they cannot retain the audio file nor the transcript.
- We use industry standard 256-bit SSL encryption on our website so that all communication between servers and browsers is encrypted.
Please note that we are not HIPAA compliant as of now.
The text of the transcript is broken into paragraphs and each speaker's diction is transcribed on a new paragraph. We also provide time-coding and speaker tracking by default. If names of speakers are provided or mentioned in the audio, then they are used. If not, Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on are used. For an illustration please check the sample transcript. For monologues, the speaker name or Speaker 1 is used all throughout. Monologues are also broken into paragraphs. Both time-coding and speaker tracking can disabled when ordering or downloading the transcript.
The transcripts are non-strict verbatim by default. This means, utterances such as mm-hmn, uh-huh, um, uh etcetera are omitted, unless absolutely necessary (e.g. for an affirmative or negative response to a directly question). However they will be included if the strict verbatim transcript option is enabled while ordering.
The spelling style can also be specified along with the order. Currently we support American, British, Australian and Canadian English style spellings. It is automatically chosen as per your country, if not specified. Please contact us with your requirement for more options.
The start/end time of transcription can also be specified. The audio file is trimmed and a new file is created containing only the specified portion which can then be ordered.
The transcripts are delivered in Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF and OpenOffice.org Text file, in addition to the plain text format. A template file is used for conversion for the first three formats. We provide four template files which can be chosen when ordering or downloading. The templates are double and single spaced versions of Scribie template (which contains a title page, header & footer and statistics) and a blank template (which contains nothing other than the transcript). The sample transcript has been formatted with Scribie Single Spaced template. We also support custom templates. Please contact us with your template file to have it set up.
Additional formatting is provided on request and charged extra depending on the requirements. Please contact us with your requirements for a quote. We also provide content creation and re-purposing services based on the transcript (e.g. Executive Summary, slide deck, article writing, subtitles, e-book conversion etc.). All such services are charged extra and handled separately from transcription. Please contact us if you require such services.
We provide a range of options which can be specified at the time of ordering. The following options are supported.
Additional Proofreading: The transcript will be proofread twice instead of once. An additional charge of $0.50/minute of audio is applicable for these orders. This option has to be specified before the order is placed and cannot be changed thereafter.
Strict Verbatim: We will include all utterances, e.g. mm-hmm, uh-huh, umm, uh in the transcript. By default the transcripts are non-strict verbatim and do not include these words unless necessary. And additional charge of $0.50/minute of audio is applicable for this option. This option has to be specified before the order is placed and cannot be changed thereafter.
Subtitles: We will also deliver a subtitle file along with the transcript. The subtitles will be formatted as SBV and can be used as a YouTube caption file and with other video players. An additional charge of $1.00/minute is applicable for this option. This option has to be specified before the order is placed and cannot be changed thereafter.
Time-coding: The audio time stamp will be added before each paragraph. This helps in cross-referencing the transcript with the audio file. No additional charges are applicable for this option.
Speaker Tracking: Speaker identification will be added before each paragraph. The names of speakers, as provided or as spoken in the audio, will be used. Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on will be used if none are available. The speaker tracking format can be either speaker initials or full names which can also be specified. No additional charges are applicable for this option.
Spelling Style: This option allows you to specify the spelling style. We currently support American, British, Australian and Canadian styles.
Start/End Time: This option allows you to specify the start and/or end time stamps of transcription, in case only a portion of the audio file needs to be transcribed. A new audio file will be created containing the specified portion which can then be ordered.
Transcript Template: This option allows you to specify the template file used for document conversion. There are four transcript templates available. The Formatting section has more information on the templates.
Our Transcription Progress Tracking feature enables you to track the progress of a transcript from your account at any stage. We provide the completion percentage as well as the Work-In-Progress transcript. The percentage is calculated based on the stage of the workflow the file is at, in any point in time. The Work-In-Progress transcript is the actual completed transcript. The accuracy of the Work-In-Progress transcript may be lower and may also contain inconsistencies (all of which will be corrected at the Proofreading stage). The following is the mapping between the percentage and the stage of the process.
