2017 Scribie Policy Announcement

2017 Transcription Policy Changes

Thank you for choosing Scribie for your transcription needs. We have a few important policy updates for 2017. These changes come into effect from Jan 1st, 2017.

It is important to note that a majority of our customers will not be adversely affected by these changes. It will improve our operational efficiency and enable us to serve you better.

Over the past 12-months, we have experienced incredible growth—for a small unfunded startup, this is no easy feat and we are very grateful to all our customers for that. We believe that the reason for such unprecedented growth is our core philosophy we hold dear and fast.

This fundamental philosophy is simple:

  • We will never compromise on the quality of the transcripts, irrespective of the difficulty level.
  • We will always compensate our transcribers fairly for their time and effort.

 Changes

  • Flex 5 is now called Budget, 1 Day is now Regular, Express is Rush.
  • Pricing for Regular and Rush has been increased.
  • Turnaround for Budget is 5 days instead of 3-5 days. Similarly, turnaround for Regular is 36 hours instead of 24-36 hours and Rush is 12 hours instead of 8-12 hours.
  • Bulk discounts have been withdrawn.

The new rate chart is the following

Service Type
Budget
Regular
Rush
Transcription Rate, per minute of audio
$0.75
$1.50
$3.00
Turnaround Time

36 hours
12 hours

Budget
: Our most affordable price point will stay the same but in order to manage expectations the delivery date has been simplified to 5 days. However, it is important to note we will do everything possible to deliver as early as possible. We would rather exceed our customer’s expectations, rather than merely meet them. This was called Flex 5 earlier, with a turnaround time of 3-5 days.

Regular: Scribie has nominally increased the price for orders to be delivered in 36 hours.  This allows us to compensate transcribers for working after hours and overtime to ensure your files are delivered with the highest quality and accuracy within 36 hours. Once again, we will try our hardest to beat the delivery expectation without sacrificing quality and accuracy. This was called 1 Day earlier with a turnaround time of 24-36 hours.

Rush: Scribie has adjusted the price for orders to be delivered in 12 hours.  Again, this ensures our transcribers are paid appropriately for their time and effort while guaranteeing your files are delivered with the highest quality and accuracy within 12 hours. And just like our other services, our goal will be to beat these delivery expectations. This was called Express earlier, with a turnaround time of 8-12 hours.

Bulk Discounts: Scribie will no longer discount bulk orders. In the spirit of authenticity, we are creating an even playing field for all our customers.

Affordable Transcription Pricing

Demystifying Transcription Pricing

If you’ve ever shopped around for the best transcription service then you’ve probably experienced how confusing and frustrating transcription pricing can be.

Many services aren’t upfront with their pricing (or accuracy level) and require you to submit for a “free quote.” Others may ostensibly offer a rock-bottom price only to nickel and dime you for features that are already standard in most services. And others are just downright disingenuous about the entire process—good luck getting in touch with them! …

How Having 3 Rates for Turnaround Options Are Better Than Having 5

We have AWESOME news for you. Now, there are only 3 rates in regards to turnaround options: express, 1 day, and 5 day. There used to be 5 options that included: Express, 24 hours, 5 days, 15 days and 30 days. Of course, there are a few of you out there wonder why the change? Why take away choices or even limit your choices?

For starters, there’s a psychological reason behind it. According to research, we are actually happier with fewer choices and it enables us to actually make an informed decision. More choices tend to make us less satisfied than when we had fewer choices. Take it one step further, we are paying more for the same things we had prior to the additional choices. By decreasing the number of choices, you as customers, have a simple decision to make.

Another benefit for customers can be seen in the 5 day option. Once the 3rd day comes around, customers can see a draft transcript. This allows you to get some work done ahead of schedule.

From a business point of view, it allows us to streamline the process, which in turn makes it a better experience for you, the customer. This means it reduces issues with quality and services, there’s a reduction in wasted resources, and a decrease in cost.

At Scribie, we want to make the entire process for you a simple and easy one. We know that your time is precious and who wants to sit contemplating over choices and whether they made the right one? Take back your time for things that really matter. For more information on the updated rates, just click here.

How Does Scribie Ensure Best Quality Transcription At A Lower Cost

There are many transcription services out there, all clamoring for your attention and money. Not all transcription services, however, are created equal.

Some may charge you a certain standard fee, but then add on fees for additional services. Some may not provide you with the best quality for your money.

Scribie offers you the best quality, 98% guarantee, at a price that doesn’t increase because you want your file as a Word document or because there are multiple speakers in your file. Scribie wants to give you the best quality you can get without breaking the bank.

You may be asking yourself how exactly is this done. For starters, Scribie’s platform is 100% online and service is provided by a large group of qualified freelance transcribers. This means no building or maintenance cost that most businesses have to cover. The freelance transcribers work via crowdsourcing and the work is quality checked by a highly efficient quality control team.call-center-1015274_640And if for any reason, you are not satisfied with the quality of your transcription, Scribie also offers a free re-review.

Now when it comes to pricing, those of you who have audio files that are of a high difficulty to transcribe may have to face some additional charges. This is only due to the fact that it requires more time and effort on the part of transcribers.

These include things like speakers with accents or files with noisy backgrounds, which are not picked by our transcribers as a first choice. These files then get stuck and the only way to get these files done is by giving more incentive to the transcribers.

But even with these additional costs, Scribie has found a way to help. Scribie has recently increased the delivery limit to 4 hours and at the same time, additional charges have been reduced to only $1.oo per minute of audio.

If your file has good audio quality, then you easily benefit from the new lower rates. If you want to save some money and ensure that your file is of good audio quality, check out a recent post on just how to do it.

Scribie strives to give you the best for the least amount of money. We want to give you service and quality that makes it seem as if you did it yourself; service that is up to your standards.

Freelance Homebased Jobs At Scribie

Benefits of Working From Home

Today, the workforce is ever-evolving. More and more people are looking to work from home, whether half the time or all the time. You may even know some people who work as full-time freelancers. There are advantages to being a freelancer or working from home.

office-620823_640
For starters, if you’re a freelancer, you are your own boss. While you may work for various companies, ultimately, you work for you. There’s no one peaking their head in at your office door to see if that latest report is almost done, there are no constant emails or phone calls coming make sure you’re doing your work – the things that bug you about being in the office are removed.

Another advantage of working from home is you get to set your own schedule. Working from 9 to 5 each and every day is a thing of the past. If you are up at 2 am in the morning because of a child or insomnia, you can work on a project and get it out of the way. If you have to pick up the kids after school and need to work on something before or after that time, you have the freedom to do so. Most work from home jobs have a certain time frame in which they need to be done, but the time of day in which it’s done is completely up to you. Not only do you get to work when you want, but you also get to work where you want. It’s a nice day outside? With an internet connection, you can take your work anywhere you want. pause-828757_640

A third advantage to being a freelancer is that you can work on multiple projects at the same time. The amount of clients you have is completely up to you and that also means more clients, more sources of income.

If those reasons weren’t good enough for you, as a freelancer, it’s possible to get paid more than those who work for a salary. When you work as a freelancer, you tend to get paid by the job. If you’re really good at what you do, you can get done in a relatively short period of time and your hourly rate can be higher than if you were working as a full time, salaried employee.

Last, but certainly not least, working as a freelance pushes you to work harder. Think about it: you work on a project and you do a great job. The company or person you did the job for liked what you did and hire you again for another project. You in turn want to keep doing a great job so you can get more work. How well you do your job results in more work for you and more work produces more income.

BITC (Burnt In Time Code) In Video Transcription

cowtcrplaylock3hoursplusversion2

If you are in the editing industry, you probably already know about Burn-in Time Code or BITC. For the uninitiated, this is the time code that you can actually see on a video. The next time you watch the extra features in, say, a recorded TV show, take a closer look. You will see a group of rolling numbers right at the bottom. That’s BITC for you.

So, what exactly is BITC?

Like we said, it is a time-code that’s superimposed on a video. This means, it is not a part of the original video, but is burn onto the picture frame. You can even remove it later on. You don’t usually use BITC on the master tape. It is rather used on copies of the original material on a non-broadcast format.

How is BITC different from regular timecodes on a transcript?

That’s a good thing to ask because this is the part that confuses many people. To begin with, BITC is strictly video. A regular timecode, on the other hand, is the timestamp that you find on your transcribed file. This refers to the running time of an audio before every paragraph. For instance, if you see something like [00:10:12] on your transcribed file, this means the time stamp was made exactly 10 minutes 12 seconds into the audio fie. Scribie offers this as a default service and guarantees an accuracy of +/- 1 second.

But, why do we need BITC?

Ask anyone working on the post-production phase of a video project, and he will tell you the many advantages of BITC. Think of a situation when many people are working on the same project. How do you communicate about a particular point of the video? Maybe do a lot of back and forth until you arrive at the desired moment you wanted to work on? Introduce BITC and your problem is solved. Simply refer to the time stamp on your video for easy reference and for saving time.

If you need BITC in your video transcription project, we can help you. Scribie now offers the service at an additional charge of $0.50 per minute. Contact us today!
